Job Description

Mwanga Hakika Bank is seeking a detail-oriented and highly experienced Assistant Manager – Branch Coordination & Quality Control to strengthen its internal control framework and ensure compliance across branch and head office operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring branch operations, reviewing control systems, identifying risks and compliance gaps, and ensuring timely corrective actions. Working closely with branches, head office units, and risk and compliance teams, the Assistant Manager will play a key role in maintaining operational integrity, enhancing financial accuracy, and promoting a strong risk-aware culture across the bank.

Responsibilities:

  • Review branch and head office control checklists and report findings to the Head of Operations & Service Excellence.
  • Conduct daily operational control reviews across all branches.
  • Identify control weaknesses and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions.
  • Review branch general ledger (G/L) accounts on a daily basis.
  • Detect and report exceptions in financial postings and transactions.
  • Support branches in correcting G/L discrepancies and maintaining accurate records.
  • Monitor the accuracy of financial reporting and operational data.
  • Ensure timely submission of regulatory and statutory returns from operational units.
  • Track compliance with regulatory reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Monitor daily vault positions, cash holdings, and ATM cash limits.
  • Ensure adherence to cash handling policies and operational limits.
  • Support risk reduction in cash management and branch operations.
  • Conduct branch visits to assess compliance with internal controls where necessary.
  • Perform physical inspections of branch operations and identify gaps.
  • Review reconciliation processes within the operations department and follow up on unresolved items.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of operational records.
  • Liaise with Risk and Compliance departments on regulatory and audit matters.
  • Follow up on audit findings and ensure timely closure of corrective action plans.
  • Review branch onboarding processes to ensure accuracy and compliance with policies.
  • Report onboarding exceptions and ensure resolution of identified issues.
  • Prepare and submit operational control and compliance reports.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field.
  • 5–10 years of banking experience in branch operations, head office operations, compliance, or control functions.
  • Strong understanding of banking operations and centralized systems.
  • Good knowledge of banking industry standards, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong risk awareness and internal control knowledge.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong report writing and documentation abilities.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and identify control weaknesses.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
