Job Description

This role is responsible for carrying out carpentry and other technical craft-related activities under supervision while supporting the maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment, and facilities within the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). The Artisan II (Carpentry) helps ensure that infrastructure and workspaces remain functional, safe, and well-maintained through quality workmanship and adherence to established procedures.

The position provides an opportunity for individuals with technical and vocational training to apply their practical carpentry skills in a professional environment. It also involves maintaining tools and equipment, supporting repair works, and assisting with various maintenance activities assigned by supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform carpentry and other specified craft-related tasks under supervision
  • Carry out routine maintenance and repair works on buildings and facilities
  • Clean and maintain the work environment to ensure safety and efficiency
  • Properly use, maintain, and safeguard tools and equipment
  • Assist in operational repairs of machinery and buildings
  • Support fitting and turning activities when required
  • Assist in ensuring plumbing and sanitary systems function properly
  • Follow workplace safety procedures and maintenance standards
  • Report maintenance issues and equipment defects to supervisors
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor

Qualifications

  • Form IV Certificate (Ordinary Level Secondary Education)
  • Competence Based Education and Training (CBET) Level II; or
  • Trade Test Grade II; or
  • Certificate in Carpentry from a recognized institution
  • Knowledge of carpentry tools, materials, and techniques
  • Basic technical and craft-related skills relevant to maintenance work
