Job Description

This role is responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating training programs for underground mining service crew personnel. The Service Crew Trainer – Expert ensures that employees possess the technical skills, safety knowledge, and operational competence required to perform underground support, maintenance, and utility installation activities effectively and safely.

The position plays a critical role in building workforce capability, promoting operational excellence, and fostering a strong safety culture. Through coaching, competency assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives, the trainer helps ensure that all service crew members meet operational standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices while supporting the achievement of production objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct theoretical and practical training sessions for underground service crew personnel
  • Deliver hands-on training in underground mining environments
  • Train employees on installation, maintenance, and underground support activities
  • Assess trainee competency using approved assessment tools and methodologies
  • Document training outcomes and assessment results accurately
  • Coach employees on safe work practices and hazard identification
  • Train personnel on equipment operation and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Identify skill gaps and develop targeted improvement plans
  • Develop, update, and maintain training materials, manuals, and assessment documents
  • Ensure training content complies with site standards, OEM requirements, and regulations
  • Recommend improvements to training programs and operational procedures
  • Promote and reinforce a strong workplace safety culture
  • Maintain knowledge of underground mining regulations, standards, and site procedures
  • Ensure compliance with mandatory safety and training requirements
  • Participate in safety audits and incident investigations when required
  • Support corrective action implementation following incidents or audits
  • Collaborate with supervisors, foremen, and safety teams to align training with operational goals
  • Monitor employee performance in the workplace and provide constructive feedback
  • Support onboarding programs for new employees and contractors
  • Facilitate retraining and upskilling programs for workforce development
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across mining operations

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of underground mining experience, preferably within service crew operations
  • Extensive knowledge of underground support systems and infrastructure installation
  • Experience with ventilation, water, compressed air, and utility systems underground
  • Recognized Trainer or Assessor certification (Train-the-Trainer, TAE, or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of underground mining regulations and safety standards
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and risk management principles
  • Experience in workforce development and competency-based training systems
  • Familiarity with training program design and implementation
