Jumbo Operator Trainer Job at Barrick Tanzania

This role is responsible for operating, supervising, and training personnel on single-boom and double-boom jumbo drilling equipment used in underground mining operations. The Jumbo Operator Trainer ensures that drilling, ground support installation, and related underground development activities are completed safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively while meeting production and safety targets.

The position also focuses on developing operator competency through coaching, mentoring, and practical field training. Working closely with mining operations teams, the successful candidate will provide technical support, improve operational performance, and promote best practices in underground drilling and development activities while maintaining compliance with company standards and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-operational inspections of jumbo drilling equipment
• Tram equipment safely to designated work areas
• Set up drilling equipment for underground operations
• Prepare and mark drilling faces according to mine plans
• Install ground support systems as required
• Perform drilling activities in accordance with operational standards
• Remove and relocate equipment after completion of work
• Ensure drilling equipment is properly cleaned and maintained
• Record and report drilling performance data accurately
• Monitor and control drilling cycles and operational efficiencies
• Ensure blasting holes are properly cleaned and prepared
• Perform charging activities in accordance with safety procedures
• Train and mentor jumbo operators and trainees
• Support skills development and competency improvement programs
• Investigate and report incidents according to company procedures
• Provide technical, practical, and field support to mining operations
• Promote operational efficiency and cost reduction through best practices
• Ensure compliance with underground mining safety standards and procedures

Qualifications

• College education or technical training equivalent to at least two years of study
• Ability to read and interpret ground support and mine development plans
• Basic electrical and mechanical knowledge of jumbo drilling rigs
• Strong understanding of underground drilling and ground support techniques
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English
• Knowledge of Mine Health and Safety regulations and standards
