AB InBev Africa is seeking an experienced and technically strong Engineering & Utilities Manager (Maltings) to provide strategic leadership for engineering, utilities, and maintenance operations within the Maltings Plant in Mwanza. This role is critical in ensuring plant reliability, equipment performance, process stability, and compliance with engineering, safety, and environmental standards in a high-performance FMCG manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing engineering systems, utilities operations, maintenance strategies, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role also involves leading technical teams, developing engineering capability, ensuring compliance with corporate standards, and driving operational excellence to support efficient and sustainable plant operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Promote a safe, healthy, and risk-free working environment across the plant.
  • Maintain high housekeeping and safety standards throughout engineering and production areas.
  • Support environmental sustainability and compliance initiatives.
  • Develop employees through performance management, coaching, and structured development discussions.
  • Identify technical skills gaps and implement training and capability development programs.
  • Maintain a positive industrial relations environment within technical teams.
  • Manage engineering talent pipelines, including apprentices and artisan development programs.
  • Ensure integrity of engineering systems and strict adherence to change control procedures.
  • Oversee maintenance, calibration, and reliability of plant instrumentation and control systems.
  • Ensure reliable operation and optimization of plant utilities and production systems.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards and corporate maintenance frameworks.
  • Develop and continuously improve engineering standards and maintenance practices.
  • Promote best practices in engineering and maintenance across the plant.
  • Diagnose operational challenges and collaborate with technical teams to implement solutions.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and provide accurate technical reports for decision-making.
  • Contribute to organizational performance scorecards and engineering performance metrics.
  • Analyze workforce engagement and performance data to drive improvement initiatives.
  • Lead employee engagement and culture improvement initiatives within the engineering function.
  • Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives across the plant.
  • Lead the People Pillar of the VPO (Voyager Plant Optimization) agenda.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or a related field is an added advantage.
  • 2–3 years of experience in a managerial role within a technical or engineering services environment.
  • 5–7 years of experience in a FMCG or industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering systems, utilities management, and plant maintenance.
  • Experience in instrumentation, control systems, and equipment reliability management.
  • Strong understanding of engineering standards and compliance frameworks.
  • Proven leadership and team development capabilities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience in process optimization and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to manage change and drive operational excellence initiatives.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Experience in performance management and technical reporting.
